Kitchen Islands – Always On Trend
Kitchen islands are a major design trend. Not only do they give the kitchen a major focal point but add a great functional work space.
They are a wonderful feature for entertaining friends and family.
Space and design
Kitchen islands can take up a lot of space within a kitchen design. Many houses within the UK traditionally had smaller kitchens and with the trend of open plan living kitchen islands are a highly demanded feature. We have found that many ground floor extensions are being built for an open plan kitchen, invariably with an island. Another option is to take out a wall between the kitchen and dining area. A smaller island if thoughtfully designed can also work for smaller houses and apartments.
Functional and practical
As the kitchen has become the main room in many houses, a highly functional island can really be where everyone spends a lot of time. If designed well, the space between hob, fridge and sink can be optimised for efficient food preparation and cooking. Practical storage and built in electrical points will keep everything close to hand.
